Foxgloves are the quintessential cottage garden flower. Tall spikes of flowers with speckled throats punctuate the garden in midsummer. Plant foxglove seeds in the autumn for blooms the following year. Once established these undemanding plants will self-seed. The foxglove's purple flowers with white markings are a beacon for Bumbles Bees. In fact, the whole plant is designed for Bumble Bee pollination. Garden lore has it that foxgloves are named for their flowers, which can easily slip onto your finger like the tip of a glove.
Please note: Foxglove species are poisonous.
Bloom time: Late spring to mid-summer.
